The 2015 Rafael Nadal Open French Open hits off tomorrow with its defending and 9-time champion in less than impressive form. Rafael Nadal has had a shocking European clay court season by his standards, failing to win a single competition. The last time this happened Nadal wasn’t even a legal adult. Nadal’s poor form has also seen him drop out of the top 5 ranking for the first time since 2005.
Nadal, currently ranked at 7, will go into the French Open as the 6th seed in the absence of Milos Raonic. There will be some potentially tricky matches for Nadal if he is to win an unprecedented 10th title. Dolgopolov or Almagro in the second round. Melzer or Mannarino in the third round. Robredo or Dimitrov in the fourth round. Djokovic in the quarterfinal.
The odds may not be in Nadal’s favour to win this year’s French Open. However, he has nothing left to prove in the competition. He has already proven himself as the best clay court player of the Open Era. If Nadal wins this French Open, he will have played some of his best tennis ever.
